It's not everybody that lives in a body that was born. There are some people, they didn't want to go through the process of being in the womb for nine months. Being born, learning how to talk, to walk, how to stand, - --No.
Some people actually need maybe 10 years in this life, and they are done. Their mission is done. The purpose they come here for, they are done.
There are other people who are about here for 20 years and their purpose is done.
Now, a volunteer can choose to be born to use the body for 20 years. And that 20 years, that soul can volunteer the body for another person who wants to live for the period of 10 years but will not be born.
So when this soul is exiting, the other soul will enter.

: According to the Akashic Records, a walk-in soul is a soul that enters a physical body previously occupied by another soul, usually through a soul agreement made before or during a major life event. It is not possession, nor is it the same as reincarnation. Rather, it is a conscious exchange of soul energy done for mutual spiritual evolution.

What is a walk-in?
A walk-in occurs when the original soul, sometimes called the natal soul, chooses to enter a physical body before physical death, often due to complex soul contract, experiencing unbearable trauma, or desiring an exit point. A new-coming soul, often from a higher dimensional or intergalactic origin, agrees to walk in and take over the body to continue the journey, with a higher purpose, mission, or frequency that would not have been achieved through traditional birth.
Walk-ins retain the body, age, DNA, and memories of the previous soul, but bring a different consciousness, purpose, and vibration.
Walk-in transitions generally happen during near-death experiences and DEs, traumas or medical crises, extreme emotional breakdowns or dark nights of the soul, major surgeries or physical traumas, deep spiritual initiations.
In these moments, the soul is partially released from the physical vessel, allowing for a dimensional soul switch, usually with higher beings overseeing the transition.

Soul contract treatment
Before the incarnation or at a critical juncture, both souls, natal and walk-in, agree on the exchange.
The outgoing soul may have completed its karma, desire relief from emotional pain or trauma, follow fears, give support from a being, and sometimes not complete the divine mission. The incoming soul may be unable to go through normal birth due to planetary time constraints, be on a mission to shift grids, awaken others, or heal collective karma, coming from a different star system, dimension, or universal layer.

Spiritual purpose of walk-ins
From the Akashic view, walk-ins are souls of service. They often incarnate with humanity at a turning point, especially to the planetary grids and light codes, shift of bloodlines, karmic trajectory. They bring healing or transmissions that the original soul could not carry.
They guide other souls into awakening.
Walk-ins are often old souls, star seeds, or interdimensional beings incarnating temporarily, or for the rest of the body's life.

Inspiration challenges
Because walk-ins carry different energetic signatures than the body's past, they may face difficulty integrating into family or society, physical or emotional disorientation resistance from people who sense the change.
The need to rapidly heal or reprogram the body-mind. However, with spiritual support, soul remembrance and grounding, walk-ins often experience accelerated growth or deep fulfillment.
